Nomenclatural History
The species Enterobacter cloacae was originally described by Hormaeche and Edwards 1960. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was placed onto the nomina taxorum conservanda by Judicial Opinion 28 in 1963. In 2005, Hoffmann et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Jordan 1890) Hoffmann et al. 2005 .
