Nomenclatural History
The genus Halorubrum was originally proposed by McGenity and Grant 1995. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 56 in 1996. Oren et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2009. Oren and Ventosa transferred the members of Kamekura and Dyall-Smith 1996 into this genus in 1996.
