Nomenclatural History
The species Halorubrum sodomense was originally described by McGenity and Grant 1995. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 56 in 1996. McGenity and Grant formed this name in 1995 by placing the species Oren 1983 into the genus McGenity and Grant 1996 emend. Oren et al. 2009. Oren and Ventosa established as an earlier homotypic synonym of (Oren 1983) Kamekura and Dyall-Smith 1996 pro synon. Halorubrum sodomense (Oren 1983) McGenity and Grant 1996 in 1996.
