Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Pectobacterium carotovorum atrosepticum was originally described by Hauben et al. 1998. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 68 in 1999. Hauben et al. formed this name in 1998 by placing the subspecies (van Hall 1902) Dye 1969 (Approved Lists 1980) into the species (Jones 1901) Waldee 1945 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Portier et al. 2019 pro synon. Erwinia carotovora (Jones 1901) Bergey et al. 1923 (Approved Lists 1980). Gardan et al. elevated this subspecies to the rank of species to form the name (van Hall 1902) Gardan et al. 2003 in 2003.
