Nomenclatural History
The species Pectobacterium carotovorum was originally described by Waldee 1945. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Hauben et al. published an emended description of this species in 1998. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Gardan et al. in 2003 and Portier et al. in 2019. Skerman et al. established as a later homotypic synonym of (Jones 1901) Bergey et al. 1923 (Approved Lists 1980) in 1980. In 1998, Hauben et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Jones 1901) Hauben et al. 1999 emend. Gardan et al. 2003 .
