The species Haemophilus vaginalis was originally described by Gardner and Dukes 1955. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1980, Greenwood and Pickett established as the basonym of (Gardner and Dukes 1955) Greenwood and Pickett 1980 emend. Vaneechoutte et al. 2019 .
