The species Arcobacter butzleri was originally described and validly published by Vandamme et al. 1992. Vandamme et al. formed this name in 1992 by placing the species Kiehlbauch et al. 1991 into the genus Vandamme et al. 1991 emend. Pérez-Cataluña et al. 2018. In 2018, Pérez-Cataluña et al. established as the basonym of (Kiehlbauch et al. 1991) Pérez-Cataluña et al. 2020 .
