The species Clostridium acidurici was originally described by Barker 1938. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Cato et al. corrected this name from Clostridium acidiurici (sic) to Clostridium acidurici . In 2017, Poehlein et al. established Clostridium acidurici as the basonym of
Gottschalkia acidurici (Liebert 1909) Poehlein et al. 2017
