The species Clostridium laramiense was originally described by Kalchayanand et al. 1993. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 46 in 1993. Trüper and De' Clari corrected this name from (sic) to . In 2003, Spring et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Kalchayanand et al. 1993) Spring et al. 2003 .
