The species Clostridium lituseburense was originally described by McClung and McCoy 1957. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 2013, Yutin and Galperin established as the basonym of (LaPlanche and Saissac 1948) Yutin and Galperin 2013 . In 2014, Gerritsen et al. established as the basonym of (LaPlanche and Saissac 1948) Gerritsen et al. 2014 .
