Nomenclatural History

The order Thermoproteales was originally proposed by Zillig et al. 1981. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 8 in 1982. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 79 in 2005. Burggraf et al. published an emended description of this order in 1997.
