The species Peptostreptococcus micros was originally described by Smith 1957. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Cato et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of (Cardon and Barker 1946) Douglas 1957 (Approved Lists 1980) in 1983. In 1999, Murdoch and Shah established as the basonym of (Prévot 1933) Murdoch and Shah 2000 . In 2006, Tindall and Euzéby established as the basonym of (Prévot 1933) Tindall and Euzéby 2006 pro synon. Micromonas micros (Prévot 1933) Murdoch and Shah 2000 .
