The species Micromonas micros was originally described by Murdoch and Shah 1999. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 75 in 2000. Murdoch and Shah formed this name in 1999 by placing the species
Peptostreptococcus micros (Prévot 1933) Smith 1957 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Parvimonas Tindall and Euzéby 2006. Tindall and Euzéby established Micromonas micros as an earlier homotypic synonym of
Parvimonas micra (Prévot 1933) Tindall and Euzéby 2006 pro synon. Micromonas micros (Prévot 1933) Murdoch and Shah 2000
in 2006.
