Nomenclatural History
The genus Virgibacillus was originally proposed and validly published by Heyndrickx et al. 1998. Wainø et al. published an emended description of this genus in 1999. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Heyrman et al. in 2003. Heyrman et al. transferred the members of Wainø et al. 1999 into this genus in 2003.
