The species Planococcus psychrophilus was originally described by Reddy et al. 2002. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 87 in 2002. In 2002, Reddy et al. established Planococcus psychrophilus as the basonym of
Planomicrobium psychrophilum (Reddy et al. 2002) Dai et al. 2005
.
Gupta and Patel 2019 effectively reverse the placement of this species into Planomicrobium by Reddy et al. 2002.
