Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Lactobacillus casei casei was originally described by Hansen and Lessel 1971. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 82 in 2008. In 1965, Abo-Elnaga and Kandler reduced (Orla-Jensen 1916) Hansen and Lessel 1971 (Approved Lists 1980) to the rank of subspecies.
