The subspecies Lactobacillus salivarius salicinius was originally described by Rogosa et al. 1953. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Li et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Lactobacillus salivarius Rogosa et al. 1953 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Li et al. 2006
in 2006.
