Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Streptococcus dysgalactiae dysgalactiae was originally described by Diernhofer 1932. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1983 the name was revived and validly published by Garvie et al.. In 1996, Vandamme et al. reduced (ex Diernhofer 1932) Garvie et al. 1983 to the rank of subspecies.
