Nomenclatural History	The subspecies Lactococcus lactis lactis was originally described by Schleifer et al. 1985. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 20 in 1986. In 1985, Schleifer et al. reduced Lactococcus lactis (Lister 1873) Schleifer et al. 1986 to the rank of subspecies. List Editor formed this name in 1986 by placing the subspecies Streptococcus lactis lactis (Lister 1873) Garvie and Farrow 1982 into the species Lactococcus lactis (Lister 1873) Schleifer et al. 1986.
