Nomenclatural History
The species Micrococcus luteus was originally described by Cohn 1872. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Wieser et al. published an emended description of this species in 2002. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Nouioui et al. in 2018 and Huang et al. in 2019. Huang et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Prakash et al. 2014 in 2019. Huang et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Zhao et al. 2009 in 2019.
