The species Arthrobacter atrocyaneus was originally described by Kuhn and Starr 1960. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 2009, Zhou et al. established Arthrobacter atrocyaneus as the basonym of
Sinomonas atrocyanea (Kuhn and Starr 1960) Zhou et al. 2009 emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
