The species Cellulosimicrobium cellulans was originally described and validly published by Schumann et al. 2001. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. Stackebrandt et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Cellulomonas cartae Stackebrandt and Kandler 1980 emend. Stackebrandt et al. 1982
in 1982. Stackebrandt et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Brevibacterium fermentans Chatelain and Second 1966 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 1982. Stackebrandt et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Brevibacterium lyticum Takayama et al. 1960 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 1982. Stackebrandt et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Oerskovia xanthineolytica Lechevalier 1972 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
in 1982. Schumann et al. formed this name in 2001 by placing the species
Cellulomonas cellulans (Metcalf and Brown 1957) Stackebrandt and Keddie 1988
into the genus Cellulosimicrobium Schumann et al. 2001 emend. Yoon et al. 2007.
