The subspecies Corynebacterium michiganense michiganense was originally described by Jensen 1934. This name was validly published by Carlson and Vidaver 1982. In 1982, Carlson and Vidaver reduced
Corynebacterium michiganense (Smith 1910) Jensen 1934 (Approved Lists 1980)
to the rank of subspecies. In 1984, Davis et al. established Corynebacterium michiganense michiganense as the basonym of
Clavibacter michiganensis michiganensis corrig. (Smith 1910) Davis et al. 1984
