Nomenclatural History
The class Cyanobacteria was originally proposed by Woese et al. 1985. This name was validly published by McNeill et al. 2007. McNeill et al. published an emended description of this class in 2007. This name replaces the name Sachs 1874 . This name replaces the name Cohn 1875 . Woese et al. elevated the order (Stanier 1973) Gibbons and Murray 1978 to the rank of class to form this name in 1985.
