Nomenclatural History
The genus Mycobacterium was originally proposed by Lehmann and Neumann 1896. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Gupta et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2018. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Meehan et al. in 2021.
