Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Mycobacterium tuberculosis tuberculosis was originally described by Lehmann and Neumann 1896. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1999, Aranaz et al. reduced (Zopf 1883) Lehmann and Neumann 1896 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Riojas et al. 2018 to the rank of subspecies.
