Nomenclatural History
The species Mycobacterium abscessus was originally described and validly published by Kusunoki and Ezaki 1992. Leao et al. published an emended description of this species in 2011. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Tortoli et al. in 2016. Kusunoki and Ezaki elevated the subspecies corrig. (Moore and Frerichs 1953) Kubica et al. 1972 (Approved Lists 1980) to the rank of species to form this name in 1992. In 2011, Leao et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Moore and Frerichs 1953) Leao et al. 2011 emend. Tortoli et al. 2016 . In 2018, Gupta et al. established as the basonym of (Moore and Frerichs 1953) Gupta et al. 2018 .
