Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Mycobacterium bovis caprae was originally described and validly published by Niemann et al. 2002. Niemann et al. formed this name in 2002 by placing the subspecies Aranaz et al. 1999 into the species Karlson and Lessel 1970 (Approved Lists 1980). Aranaz et al. elevated this subspecies to the rank of species to form the name (Aranaz et al. 1999) Aranaz et al. 2003 in 2003.
