Nomenclatural History
The species Mycobacterium bovis was originally described by Karlson and Lessel 1970. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 2002, Niemann et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Karlson and Lessel 1970) Niemann et al. 2002 . Riojas et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Zopf 1883) Lehmann and Neumann 1896 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Riojas et al. 2018 in 2018.
