The species Propionibacterium microaerophilum was originally described and validly published by Koussémon et al. 2001. In 2016, Scholz and Kilian established Propionibacterium microaerophilum as the basonym of
Acidipropionibacterium microaerophilum (Koussémon et al. 2001) Scholz and Kilian 2016
.
Tindall 2019 asserts that one of the two nomenclatural type deposits is a patent strain.
