Nomenclatural History

The species Propionibacterium propionicum was originally described and validly published by Charfreitag et al. 1988. Moore and Moore corrected this name from Propionibacterium propionicus (sic) to Propionibacterium propionicum . Charfreitag et al. formed this name in 1988 by placing the species
Arachnia propionica (Buchanan and Pine 1962) Pine and Georg 1969 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Tindall 2019
into the genus Propionibacterium Orla-Jensen 1909 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Scholz and Kilian 2016. In 2016, Scholz and Kilian established Propionibacterium propionicum as the basonym of
Pseudopropionibacterium propionicum (Buchanan and Pine 1962) Scholz and Kilian 2016 pro synon. Arachnia propionica (Buchanan and Pine 1962) Pine and Georg 1969 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Tindall 2019
