The subspecies Streptomyces libani rufus was originally described by Baldacci and Grein 1966. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Komaki and Tamura established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces platensis Backus and Tresner 1956 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Komaki and Tamura 2020
in 2020.
