Nomenclatural History
|
The species Streptomyces lilacinus was originally described by Witt and Stackebrandt 1990. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 38 in 1991. Witt and Stackebrandt formed this name in 1990 by placing the species
Streptoverticillium lilacinum (Nakazawa et al. 1956) Locci et al. 1969 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Streptomyces Waksman and Henrici 1943 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Idris et al. 2017. Hatano et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces kashimirensis corrig. Witt and Stackebrandt 1991 pro synon. Streptoverticillium kashmirense (Gupta and Chopra 1963) Locci et al. 1969 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2003.
This name was "revived" by Witt and Stackebrandt 1990, but since the epithet was already in use as a type strain for Streptoverticillium lilacinum (AL), it should have simply been a new combination during the unification of the species.
