Nomenclatural History
The genus Azospirillum was originally proposed by Tarrand et al. 1978. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Falk et al. published an emended description of this genus in 1985. Ben Dekhil et al. transferred the members of Skerman et al. 1983 into this genus in 1997.
