The subspecies Acetobacter aceti xylinus was originally described by De Ley and Frateur 1974. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 59 in 1985. Judicial Commission corrected this name from Acetobacter aceti xylinum (sic) to Acetobacter aceti xylinus . Yamada elevated this subspecies to the rank of species to form the name
Acetobacter xylinus corrig. (Brown 1886) Yamada 1984
in 1983.
