Nomenclatural History
|
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 109 in 2006. The species Xanthomonas gardneri was originally described by Šutič 1957. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 2004 the name was revived by Jones et al.. Jones et al. formed this name in 2004 by placing the species
Pseudomonas gardneri Šutič 1957
into the genus Xanthomonas (Bergey et al. 1923) Dowson 1939 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Vauterin et al. 1995. Young et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Xanthomonas cynarae Trébaol et al. 2000 emend. Timilsina et al. 2019
in 2008.
Timilsina et al. 2019 redundantly proposed a heterotypic synonym between X. gardneri and X. cynarae.
