The species Lactobacillus coryniformis was originally described by Abo-Elnaga and Kandler 1965. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1965, Abo-Elnaga and Kandler reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form Abo-Elnaga and Kandler 1965 (Approved Lists 1980) . In 2020, Zheng et al. established as the basonym of (Abo-Elnaga and Kandler 1965) Zheng et al. 2020 .
