Nomenclatural History

The genus Byssophaga was originally proposed by Reichenbach 2005. Reichenbach et al. replaced this illegitimate name with
Byssovorax Reichenbach et al. 2006
in 2006.
The genus name Bysophaga is illegitimate because it was previously used as the name of a moth.
