Nomenclatural History
This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 97 in 2020. Trüper and De' Clari corrected this name from (sic) to . The species Streptomyces scabies was originally described by Thaxter 1891. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1989 the name was revived and validly published by Lambert and Loria.

Lambert et al. 2007 proposed that the original epithet be conserved over the correct name Streptomyces scabiei, considering the long-established use and general recognition of ‘scabies’. This request was denied by the Judicial Commission in Opinion 97.
