The suborder Catenulisporineae was originally proposed and validly published by Cavaletti et al. 2006. Zhi et al. published an emended description of this suborder in 2009. Donadio et al. elevated this suborder to the rank of order to form the name
Catenulisporales (Cavaletti et al. 2006) Donadio et al. 2015
in 2012.
