The order Catenulisporales was originally proposed by Donadio et al. 2012. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 164 in 2015. Donadio et al. elevated the suborder Cavaletti et al. 2006 emend. Zhi et al. 2009 to the rank of order to form this name in 2012.
