The subspecies Photorhabdus temperata khanii was originally described and validly published by Tailliez et al. 2010. Machado et al. elevated this subspecies to the rank of species to form the name (Tailliez et al. 2010) Machado et al. 2018 emend. Machado et al. 2019 in 2018.
