The species Peptoniphilus rhinitidis was originally described by Jung et al. 2014. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 200 in 2021. Aujoulat et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Peptoniphilus lacydonensis Beye et al. 2018
in 2021.
