The species Peptoniphilus tyrrelliae was originally described by Citron et al. 2012. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 149 in 2013. Aujoulat et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Peptoniphilus senegalensis Mishra et al. 2016
in 2021.
