The species Peptoniphilus senegalensis was originally described by Mishra et al. 2013. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 170 in 2016. Aujoulat et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Peptoniphilus tyrrelliae Citron et al. 2013
in 2021.
