The genus Sinorhodobacter was originally proposed by Yang et al. 2013. This name was validly published by Oren and Garrity 2018. Yang et al. corrected this name from (sic) to . Xi et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2017. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Liang et al. in 2021.
