The genus Sinirhodobacter was originally proposed by Yang et al. 2013. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 183 in 2018. Yang et al. corrected this name from (sic) to . Xi et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2017. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Liang et al. in 2021.
