The genus Asterococcus was originally proposed by Borrel et al. 1910. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 22 in 1958. Judicial Commission replaced this illegitimate name with Nowak 1929 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Gupta et al. 2018 in 1958.
