The species Asterococcus mycoides was originally described by Borrel et al. 1910. In 1958, Judicial Commission established as the basonym of (Borrel et al. 1910) Freundt 1955 (Approved Lists 1980) .

This name is illegitimate because the genus is a later homonym.
