The species Herbivorax saccincola was originally described and validly published by Koeck et al. 2016. In 2018, Zhang et al. established Herbivorax saccincola as the basonym of
Hungateiclostridium saccincola (Koeck et al. 2016) Zhang et al. 2018
. In 2019, Tindall established Herbivorax saccincola as the basonym of
Acetivibrio saccincola (Koeck et al. 2016) Tindall 2019
.
